This week is beginning to scare me

I am not a supersticious person but this week is really beginning to scare me. First Bryan Bukenya son to VP Bukenya who I didn't know till Sunday passes away, then Gen. James Kazini also passes early this morning.

What is shocking is the way they've died; Bryan in a road accident while travelling in a double cabin with four other people but the only one who dies. Then the General gets hit by his girlfriend with an iron bar!!!
Geez!!

Anyway despite all this sorrow, the clubs and bars will still open. Enjoy your life, while you still have it.

Eating the Ugandan way..........

There are so many reasons why I love my country. Heaven knows I adore the way we eat.A place where fat bellies represent wealth. Who cares about gaining weight, eating right.... blah blah. We live everyday to the fullest. That is why Pork takes the spot as our number one delicacy. Let me take you the places where I have experienced the the magic........

NankulabyeThis is the origin of Pork. Nakulabye is flooded with pork joints that you can almost fail to choose. Most importantly it is blessed to have the ancestor of all pork joints,Nicodemus. At Nicodemus pork is ordered in Kilos. His excellency, the president of Uganda once stopped in amusement.. The guy was worried thought people were planning a coup. The body guards who had experience in eating the Ugandan way quickly calmed him. All the president could say was, "Ugandans, then they complain they have no money"

Kabalagala...Kansanga
Those who have been their can help me testify. This place has its share of pork joints. The beauty of these joints is that they are close to happening places.
Recently I was at some pork joint and opposite was a clear view of girls dropping itlike its hot at Punchline. In case you are wondering what the hell punchline is? Just stick with this site. Oh yeah, back to the pork.........

Ntinda
This time, its not about the mansions.......Ntinda has it share of this food most dear to us. The spacious Zanzi bar is very popular. Weekends, weekdays the pork is always their. Rock Catalina,Cave down...the list is endless.

Honestly I have just given given you a sneak pick. The pork places are so many. I can notcontinue because we still need more space on our site to tell you WHATS HAPPENING IN UG.........

When Bar hopping is cheap..........

It’s Friday and you beyond doubt want to go out, not to only one bar but as many as possible. Well, if you are like me you are worried about the transport costs. The cost of a cab is worth like twenty beers. Behold I bring you good news, you can bar hop with out spending a coin. Kindly follow my lead…………….
Kisimenti. (Kamokya)
At Kisimenti, you can bar hop with out spending a shilling. The place is swamped with popular bars, Fat boys, just kicking and Iguana. Each bar is unique with a different crowd. The place is also blessed with some bufundas were you can start the night with cheap beer and later join the more fortunate Ugandans when you are blazed. The next day wake up boasting, “Man, I started at some Kafunda, then some place with whites called Iguana, before I knew it, Fat boys and finally Just kicking”. Believe me guys will allow.
Kampala Road.
This is one of the most happening places over the weekend. Here, you can still move around like you own the city with out wasting a coin. It’s worthwhile to begin with Club Rouge, since there is happy hour till 9pm and free entrance for ladies before 11pm. Mateo’s is on the same street with serious music and either Bell or Club promotions. Nandos is just below, guys are their not for only for Pizza but to also set the nights agenda. Platinum is also around the corner. The beauty of platinum is that there is no need to wait for happy hour, alcohol is cheap through out. When you are finally done hanging, there are taxis to most Kampala suburbs available.
I have shared my words of wisdom, so let’s go party. For God and My Country.

Another Friday

First I'll start by apologising for not post anything here for about two weeks now. Now that that is done, I'll start by feeling you in.

Last week started with a huge party at Zone 7 that they called the June Fest. It really was a Fest. My God! Everyone was there, they even had a huge cake for what they called the June babies.
I was there personally so I witnessed all this. It really was a huge party. I left at about 2am with my boys and we decided to check out other places since Tuesday was a public holiday. We drove from Zone7 to the Rugby Club, to Kisementi, and to Centenary Park and found not a place with life worth our stay. So we decided to check out the discotheques at Industrial area. Ange was closed so we drove on, Silk had another party of there own. The parking lot would tell you so you didn't have to enter to know. There were so many cars packed that you'd just know it's parked in there.
So we decided to check out a place we'd never checked out; T1 Club. It was also packed but we went in anyway. We had a blast, I'll surely go check it out again.

Then came the weekend and the much anticipated Rugby match between Uganda and Tunisia. I won't go into that since we lost anyway. But the after party!!! God Kampala! I think everyone in town was at Kampala Rugby Club last Saturday. The places was so parked that different music was being played from two different places. I wonder if that was the reason for that. Anyways it was a blast that when they stopped playing music at 2am I just went straight to my bed coz I'd had enough fun for the night.

Did you noticed I called this post Another Friday? Well that is because Another Friday is actually the theme night tonight at T1. I'll pass by to see what happens there but am told they'll play Rumba, Lingala, Soul, Pop, New Jack Swing, Afro Caribbean and many more.. That's like everything you can play in Uganda. Oh they'll also have live performances from dance groups.

It's the Blazzin Reggae Ragga nite at Silk, Galz Nite Out at Ange Noir and many more.. So you have many choices to choose from..

See you Out...

Am now on my way to Centenary Park to find out what those bars are doing today. Visit www.whatshappeninginug.com for details.

The night before Martyrs day.

As usual it begun as a normal day. People in their offices, students attending lectures, and the streets busy with people. But by the end of the day the excitement had set in.

People had smiles on their faces knowing the next day was a public holiday. The question on everyone's mind remained; which places happen on Tuesday being an early day of the week? But thank God for the town we live in. There were a variety of places, even the ones that don't open on Tuesday were open knowing their citizens to be party animals. However, there were some places that were on most people's minds being known for their theme nights. Steak out known for its Super Tuesday seemed to be the place on everyone's mind. The crowds were just dispeakable, gettin to the counter would take one twenty minutes not forgetting Bell was being sold at 1800shs only.

I could not take it anymore just after an hour because of the increasing crowds so we left for Fat Boyz knowing how it can never go wrong. It was Reggae night, and for some reason I enjoyed this place. It was not so packed, the crowd was a classy one and one had enough space to shake and get a drink quickly.
As time passed the music changed and got better, it was definately fun but we decided to hop to another bar. We called up our friends who said they were at the Barbeque lounge so we set off for Centenary Park. I was excited because the last time I was there I really liked it. Starting from the setup to the kind of people there, the music, it was just the place to be. But ooops!! this was not the case when we got there. The place was so packed and the crowd had many idlers. I then thought to myself when all these people discovered the place. We just walked in and out. Then we decided to try out Kyoto and boy did we make the right choice. The place was ballistic! The crowd was respectable and it was not packed. We did not leave till 5am. The music was just crazy, we danced till we couldn't take it any more and that was how my night ended.
It sure was a long one, can't wait for the next public holiday soon to come.

Entebbe

This past weekend I went to Entebbe to watch the Great Lakes Rugby 7s hosted by Entebbe Mongers Rugby Football Club. It was fun; the Beer was well chilled, the Muchomo was well done and the chics were nice thanks to Bella Events.

After that it was time to visit the bars. So I set off with my drink buddies. All the bars were showing the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Everton which I really didn't care about being a hard core Man United fan. After 10 minutes of touring the entire town to choose a bar, we settled for 4 Turkeys were we sat outside as we waited for the soccer to end so that we could catch the second half of the super 14 final.

The soccer ended and we were given a chance to catch our rugby. Some everyone we'd left at the rugby grounds was now with us and the night was on. We watched our rugby just us the guys that had come from Kampala as all the locals either played pool or cursed us for watching some stupid game while they could have been watching something like "Second Chance". Anyways the game soon ended and we now seriously started sending a swallow. We soon got bored at this place and moved to a bar I'll never forget. The bar is called Cassava Republic. This is a very good bar. The crowds are much better than those at 4 Turkeys.

Cassava Republic has everything good in a bar; cold beer, good music, food if you get hungry, no rowdy crowds, and nice chics. If we did not have to drive back to Kampala that night, we would have stayed all night.

Next time I'm in Entebbe I'll be sure to go to Cassava republic before checking out the other places that I didn't get a chance to visit. Places like X5 and Night Riders.

27th May 2009

It's the Champions League Final today and I promised I'd tell you which places you can go to watch it. Well for starters every bar that has a TV set and DSTV won't want to miss this except for those that don't show soccer as a policy. I can't think of any such off head but I'll give you some next time.

But whether you want to catch the game at the Mist at Serena or your kafunda bar you'll find it there.

I'll give you of a few places that are doing a special night for the final. Steak Out will have the game on large screen as you enjoy the Reggae with Selector Ras Brown and DJ Joseph.

Just kicking being a sports bar would be a good place to catch the final.
Zone7 is also doing a large, large screen there.
The biggest party I know is going to be at Sway Club. The party there starts at 7pm, and then an after party after the game till morning.

For more alternatives of where to hang out tonight, visit www.whatshappeninginug.com. Especially for those of you who are not soccer fans.

This Weekend

The weekend started on Thursday for me. I learnt earlier in the week that Fat Boyz has happy hour every Sunday to Thursday from 4pm to 7pm. Where you buy one and get another free for any Club product.
So on Thursday I was there at exactly 3:57 pm. With my friends of course. And Fat Boyz didn't disappoint so we stayed till 9pm after which we left for the Rock Nite at steak Out - Totally enjoyed ourselves.

On Friday I went to a place I'd not been to for over a year. Kyadondo Rugby Club. I'd stopped going there because of the crazy crowds it had. You could hadly move at that place but it looks like when we stopped going there every body else stopped. So yesterday we just decided to drop by and check it out. We actually ended up staying. The crowds changed and reduced, the music is good and the beer is very cold at only 2k. I left at 2am without my friends. They left at 4am.

I went to Ange Mystique after that. I wonder if people in this city use their beds on weekends. At night that is. Everywhere you go is full, I wonder where all these people come from. But well this is our city.

Now let me get ready for another crazy one.

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Yesterday was crazy, seeing Chelsea's champions league dreams shattered. Ouch,It must have been painful. I watched the game from the bridge. It's some place in bugolobi, popularly known as Old Bamboo. The place was full of Chelsea fans and bitter Asernal guys. Some Asernal chaps were still grieving."I hope Chelsea wins and showers Man.u" was a common statement. By the time a man sides with one of his enemies, then you know things a tight. By added time, Chelsea fans were already buying beers like a problem. All the Chelsea fans in the bar were so sure thier club had booked its place in Rome. Madness broke out when Barcelona equalised. Guys were in tears.
I looked for the nearest exit and headed for Kati-Kati in Lugogo

There was drama at Kati-Kati,some dissapointed fans failed to pay their bill. The askaris caught them escaping at the gate. Imagine two guys with two chics. Luckily they were bailed out by Barcelona supporter. The guy didnot only pay their bill but bought them two rounds. I hahad!

Dusk till dawn

It’s the middle of the week but I’m still getting over the blues of last Friday. It started as a quiet night at Clement Hill Hotel. That place has a ballistic dungeon bar. Its one of those places you go to when you are tired of the usual Kampala crowd. The place is full of cooperate guys. Since am few steps away from the ladder, I insisted on mixing with the crowd. It was amazing the booze was being brought in crates; I managed to fluke free beer. Trust me; nothing tastes better than a free beer. The night was getting cold; we decided to party indoors all the way. On a Friday, indoors was definitely the disco. We decided to go to club silk. Honestly it's the guys who decided,I was going with flow.

By the time we got to silk, everyone around me was speaking in tongues. This time it wasn’t the Holy Spirit, alcohol was in the midst. Lounge and Oxygen were on fire. They were playing fine old school music. Its fun watching some of Kampala’s cream grooving their heads off. That’s the thing with Silk lounge and Oxygen you rub shoulders with the guys you read about in the papers. Next time I plan to go there with my CV, damn the CEOs were more than the drinks.
We danced until 5 am; time does really fly when you are having fun. Looking at the crowd, one would think the night had just started. As were leaving the club, someone suggested Phatboys. I know 5am! They say if you can’t beat them, just join them.
I swear Ugandans can party. phat boys was full. People were still drinking like crazy. We hang out at phatboys until 7am. I love my country.

Friday is a public holiday!!!!

I know tonight is going to be a good night to be out. The timing it perfect. Friday is a public holiday, many people just got paid, there I said it. So am sure all bars are stocking extra if they haven't already.

In this city that is very good news. I know people who have been planning for their partying for this weekend since Monday. Yesterday while at my favourite bar I heard a friend of mine plan it out; "Tomorrow I'll come for the Back to the Oldskool night till like 1am, then go to the rock night at Steak Out. My chic will be in Ange with her friends for the campus night so I'll be with the boys ".

Zone 7 makes 3 years this Friday and the party is on today. That is going to be a crazy one, I'll definitely be there. Can't miss it for anything.

For details of what's happening where visit www.whatshappeninginug.com.
If you can't be out tonight, don't worry. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow. If I still have the energy to write.

The weekend that was

Crazy!
Is all I can say about the weekend. My escapades on Friday saw me end up in Kisementi at Fat Boys. Boy that place happens! I left just before 5:00am to head to Bugos just to have enough sleep before the super 14 game at 8:30am. Thank God the game was delayed by over 30 minutes because I would have missed the entire first half. Someone turned off my alarm clock for some reason.

Then there was Saturday. Boy oh boy! It happened to be my friend's birthday so four of my friends came over to watch the super 14 games and before I knew it we were off again. Time check 12:20pm. We stayed home till after the Man United game and by that time two crates had gone down. Obviously I prefer to watch the Premier league games in a bar but this was different.

Talking about watching soccer in bars. I think bar owners should start paying some money to the Barclays Premiers League. These people's sales go up as much as 20% during the season. Seriously if you love soccer, stop watching it at home. Find a bar near you. It's so much better. The feeling as you look into your opponent's fan's eyes as you thump them is so.... I can't describe it. And of course the unlimited flow of your favourite beer or whiskey or soda for that matter.

Eh, back to my Saturday night. I managed to convince my friends to stop at the Smirnoff Raev Street Jam, and street jam we went. We had a lot of fun, the fireworks was ballistic, but there was no Beebie Man and that is the line I used to convince my friends. But they quickly forgot about it after the fireworks and some good performances from our local boys.

We left the Street Jam after about two hours and headed to Steak Out. Steak Out was on fire so we stayed. I got many phone calls to go to Equator at the Sheraton among other places and kept turning the envitations down but only managed to do that for an hour or so as I finally decided to go. Crazy! Again, Kampala people know how to hang out. This place is at the Sheraton! I know many people who would shut you up the moment you mention drinking at the Sheraton and I don't blame them. But this place also has its people, and they are not few. I'm going to trying it out again this weekend. Before I get high...

Today is the last Tuesday of the month and The Maurice Kirya Experience is on at the Rouge at the Plaza building. This is one of the best live music performances in the country. Maurice collects the country's most talented musicians and poets and puts them on the same stage. He also invites real talent from other countries to spice it up even more. This show is always Lege.....ndary! It only runs from 8:00pm to 10:00pm but for 10k, we get more than we pay for.

And of course being a Tuesday, the Campus night at club silk is on. I missed very few of these during my time at campus and I regret missing them up to now. You want to know why, go find out for yourself.

The Super Tuesday is on at Steak Out today and this is one of the reasons I love my Job.
See you there..

Tonight

It's Friday!!! And the party begins.
I'm still debating where to start from and God knows where I'll end.
I might start at theatre La Bonita to watch the Ebonies' Thorns & Roses or head to cineplex to watch The International. Good movie right there.
Then later I'll head to Kampala rugby club where it's crazy as usual. Which I'll leave at 1:00am and go to Zone 7 for another crazy session.

After that I'll be quite high so let me not even try to imagine where I'll go because the sky is the limit on a Friday night like this being the last of the month. Pheew it's coming to an end.. someone promised us lots of rain and floods but it's quite hot to me.

Oh yes, back to my partying I don't know what time I'll leave Zone 7 or where I'll go but I do know it's not home and certainly not the club. Saving that for the street jam tomorrow where they've promised us The King of Dance Hall, Beanie... For 10k?!! I'll surely get more than my money's worth.

I can't even start guessing where most of you will start as the list is endless but for a good idea of where to start or even finish, visit www.whatshappeninginug.com

Peace a you

Coming up

The Smirnoff Raev Street Jam at Club silk this weekend promises fun that you've never had before..
